She took a degree in English and Spanish in 1987 and completed her PhD in
English Literature at Leipzig University in 1991. In 1993 she taught for a
semester at Longwood College in Farmville, VA (USA). Since 1995 Jana
Gohrisch has been working as an assistant professor of English at Humboldt
University in Berlin. Her research interests range from cultural studies
via postcolonial literatures, with special emphasis on Caribbean and
African writing, to the representation of emotion in Victorian literature
and middle-class culture. She has served on the advisory boards of the
Association of German Professors of English since 1999 and of the Centre
for Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies (ZiF) at Humboldt since 1998.
