The research and innovations are necessary to create an economic growth and social development. The exchange of knowledge is a basic of market success (synergy effect). Nowadays, the notion of innovation is treated flexibly depending on the field in which it is used. The authors treat enterprise innovation as the ability and motivation to search and commercially use the results of scientific researches.
Entrepreneurs as well as science and research people believe that there is a shortage of knowledge transfer mechanisms for innovation, innovation awareness, culture and education. Researches were contributed to increased possibilities for development and improvement of competitiveness of companies by extending the base supporting development of research, innovation, and technologies.
The publication encompasses different aspects of innovation management in enterprises, among others such elements as enterprise’s strategic analysis, chosen problems of gaining the advantage over competition, managing ERP project and raising the organisation efficiency.

Preface
“Innovation management in small and medium-sized enterprises” – is yet another publication of researchers in the area of management, connected with the Institute of Computer Science and Production Management of University of Zielona Gora. Among the authors there are also Prof. Irene Krebs, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, and Prof. Matuszek Józef, Prof. Gregor Milan, PhD Kukla Sławomir, PhD Mleczko Janusz and Moczała Aleksander, PhD, Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Bielsko-Biala.
Innovation is always connected with the knowledge and technology transfer to an enterprise. Innovation solutions are understood as the efficient information use. Information needs encompass the whole area of enterprise activity starting with economic planning through sales and production planning, technical production preparation, production power balance, delivery execution, production and production plan execution, finances and accountancy, personnel and salaries management, and finishing on sales plan execution and control. The undergoing economic changes enforce the need for quality and quantity new information, i.e. the new approach to building, introducing and organising management information systems. On the other hand, the employees’ knowledge and skills, know-how and contacts with clients are the enterprise’s assets, which nowadays are a deciding factor in being economically competitive.
Nowadays, the notion of innovation is treated flexibly depending on the field in which it is used. The bases of being economically competitive enterprise in the MSP sector are directly initiative and innovation. The authors treat enterprise innovation as the ability and motivation to search and commercially use the results of scientific researches.
To be competitive, the enterprises of MSP sector should find the support in the universities in order to gain knowledge and innovation as a “driving force of the growth” (in accordance with the document, “Common Actions for Economic Growth and Employment – the New Beginning of Lisbon Strategy”). It is necessary to be a more attractive business partner than other enterprises by means of patents, technology, location, products quality and the ability to buy cheap.
The publication encompasses different aspects of innovation management in enterprises, among others such elements as enterprise’s strategic analysis, chosen problems of gaining the advantage over competition, managing ERP project and raising the organisation efficiency.
The book should be interested for people practically and theoretically functioning in the sphere of the enterprise organisation and management. The articles might be also useful as a complementary literature in educating students in “Management and Marketing” and “Management and Production Engineering” specialisations.
We hope you will find the reading useful and pleasant.
