Zum Buch   The political scientist Ossip K. Flechtheim (1909-1998) was an interdisciplinary scholar and thinker who lived in Germany, France, Switzerland and the United States. His oeuvre includes nearly twenty monographs and numerous edited volumes devoted to fundamental problems of the twentieth and twenty-first century: War and peace, democracy and dictatorship, fascism and antifascism, the North-South conflict, as well as capitalism and communism in their various manifestations. This book explores the continued relevance of Flechtheim’s work and introduces him as a historian of contemporary communism, as a political scientist and as the founder of futurology (a term coined by him), or futures studies. Der Politikwissenschaftler Ossip K. Flechtheim (1909-1998) war ein interdisziplinär arbeitender Gelehrter und Denker, der in Deutschland, Frankreich, der Schweiz und den USA lebte. Sein Werk umfasst beinahe zwanzig Bücher und eine große Zahl herausgegebener Arbeiten. Sie behandeln grundlegende Probleme des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts: Krieg und Frieden, Demokratie und Diktatur, Faschismus und Antifaschismus, den Nord-Süd-Konflikt sowie Kapitalismus und Kommunismus in ihren verschiedenen Formen.
